Laser Treatment For Nail Fungus

Our Approach

Our Fungal Treatment Protocol includes a combination of topical anti-fungal medications and class IV laser treatments. Topical medication therapy effectively penetrates the nails to kill microbes where they live. Laser therapy targets deep within the nail where fungus hides, eradicating all traces of fungus and microbes infecting the nails. Visits with our foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Edward M. Lang, are biweekly and do not always require a laser therapy session. Treatment schedules to obtain clear and healthy nails vary depending on the level of infection.

Our Laser:

PinPointe FootLaser™ is clinically proven to eradicate unsightly toenail fungus.

How Does the Laser Work?

PinPointe FootLaser™ operates in the light spectrum of near-infrared light. By design, it safely destroys the fungi, molds, bacteria, and germs that infect, discolor and deform toenails.

Is this Laser Painful?

The gentle laser light beam does not affect healthy tissue. There is no, or minimal discomfort, during or after the treatment. It does not harm or affect your daily activity in any way.

How Long Does a Laser Treatment Take?

A PinPointe FootLaser™ treatment can take up to forty minutes with evaluation and sanding; however, laser treatment alone takes fifteen minutes to perform.

Is this Treatment Safe?

Clinical studies have found no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities, or known side effects associated with PinPointe FootLaser treatments.

Does Insurance Pay for Laser Therapy?

No. Insurance carriers often pay for your office visit and evaluation to determine whether your nails are infected with a fungus or pathogens, including a fungal culture. However, because laser nail treatment is considered cosmetic, health insurance carriers do not cover the cost of the laser.

Can I Use an HSA to Pay for Laser Therapy?

If your insurance carrier offers an HSA (health spending account), you can use your HSA funds to pay for your laser nail treatments.

How much Does Laser Therapy Cost?

PinPointe FootLaser™ treatments are on sale for $300.00 per session and include all ten toenails.

What Other Expenses are Related to Laser Therapy?

Patients are responsible for the cost of medical visits, fungal evaluations, and an $18.00 post-laser kit. Medical visits can be billed to healthcare insurance; however the post-laser kit is an out-of-pocket expense. The kit includes six disposable nail sanders and Clean Sweep, a natural silver shoe spray used to sanitize shoe collections. Also, Dr. Lang will prescribe two anti-fungal medications to treat your nails and skin. The cost of anti-fungal medications is rarely reimbursed by health insurance; however we send prescriptions to pharmacies with the lowest self-pay prices in the country.

Does Laser Therapy Work?

Yes, primarily when PinPointe FootLaser™ therapy is used as an adjunct to a comprehensive fungal treatment program. A comprehensive approach to treating fungus includes:

  • Cleaning your shoe collection and keeping it fungus free.
  • Applying anti-fungal topicals to feet and nails daily.
  • Following up, keeping your scheduled medical visits, and keeping your environment clean, including floors, bedsheets, socks, and showers.

Who Qualifies for Fungal Laser Therapy?

Patients with diabetic or non-diabetic foot neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, or those who are pregnant or nursing are not candidates for laser treatment.

How Many Treatments Before My Toenails are Fungus-Free?

It depends on your level of infection. Most patients require no less than three laser treatments. The average number lies between four and five. Badly infected nails may take up to a year before they become healthy. Mildly infected nails may become fungus-free within a few months.

What Happens After I Achieve Fungus-Free Nails?

A fungal culture is performed when the physician determines that clear, healthy nails have been achieved. If the culture is negative, the patient is discharged from the treatment protocol. To stay ahead of reinfection, it is recommended to follow up with our physician every six months thereafter.
