New Orleans Podiatry Associates is excited to offer KeryFlex, an amazing product that allows you to show off beautiful, natural-looking nails while your own nails grow back. Used in conjunction with our PinPointe Foot Laser, NOPA can help you get rid of unsightly toenail fungus and have you wiggling your toes for all to see in no time!
What is KeryFlex?
KeryFlex™is an aesthetic product that covers unsightly toenails and helps restore damaged nails (where 30% of your natural nail already exists). It may also be used in conjunction with oral, topical, and laser treatments for onychomycosis (fungal infection of the toenail). KeryFlex is a non-porous barrier, which helps prevent moisture and fungus from reaching the natural nail. It is a permanent polymer that cannot be easily removed from the nail. KeryFlex was created just for toenails, and it bends and moves with your feet so that you may continue your active lifestyle while keeping beautiful-looking nails.
Who should consider KeryFlex?
KeryFlex is an excellent product for those with any of the following: toenail fungus, brittle nails, split or splitting nails, spoon-shaped nails, nails with horizontal ridges, discolored nails, and nails whose shape has changed due to an injury.
How is KeryFlex made?
Your podiatrist or his or her nail technician creates KeryFlex much in the same way a sculptured nail is made in a salon. It is made within 15 minutes.
How does KeryFlex work?
Once the nail bed has been prepared and the nail debrided, KeryFlex Bond is brushed onto the nail plate and nail bed. KeryFlex Resin builds up in the nail and allows for the sculpting and contouring of the nail. Then, KeryFlex seal is applied after the modeling process has been completed. Finally, ultraviolet light hardens the substances within 2 minutes.
How is KeryFlex used along with laser treatments for fungal nails?
New Orleans Podiatry Associates is proud to be the only PinPointe Laser Center in the New Orleans area. After using the laser to treat your fungal nails, Dr. Lang's team can use KeryFlex to give you beautiful and natural-looking nails on the same day of your laser treatment. (Note that while KeryFlex has an anti-fungal component, it is not a treatment for fungal nails; it is used in conjunction with the laser to give you beautiful nails.)
How long are typical KeryFlex treatments?
Because KeryFlex is a permanent polymer, you should be prepared to commit to your KeryFlex treatment. The polymer will remain attached to your nail(s) for at least 6-9 months until your new, natural nail grows enough to replace the KeryFlex nail. It will be very important for you to keep your appointments as scheduled for the treatment to be successful.
Why is KeryFlex a better option than having a salon create a sculptured nail?
KeryFlex is a non-porous and flexible material, whereas salon products are porous and inflexible. Salon products thus may allow fungi to reach your nails, and they are less comfortable. If you try to run or walk or if you jam your toes while wearing a salon-created nail, you may find that your entire nail has been ripped off since sculptured nails are made of very rigid material. KeryFlex is created by your podiatrist and moves with your feet and toes the way real nails would.
May I use nail polish on a KeryFlex nail?
Yes! You may apply nail polish as soon as the nails have dried. If you want to show off those nails in a sandal or open-toed shoe, you can do that right away, too, so natural-looking is a KeryFlex nail.
Can a KeryFlex nail be removed?
If you no longer wish to have a KeryFlex nail, Dr. Lang and his team can remove the artificial nail. KeryFlex is durable, but it is possible for your podiatrist to remove it.
Does KeryFlex have any side effects?
KeryFlex has no known side effects for those who use the product according to the maker's and your podiatrist's specifications.
How much does KeryFlex cost?
The office visit is $90. A KeryFlex kit is $60 and includes enough material to create 10 KeryFlex nails. The application is $12 per nail. Follow up applications are recommended to be done every 4-6 weeks.
