Toenail Fungus

Treating toenail fungus (also known as onychomycosis) is one of Dr. Edward Lang's areas of expertise. Dr. Lang's Toenail Fungus Protocol has helped thousands of New Orleans and Metaire patients achieve clear, beautiful toenails, including difficult to treat cases.

Causes of Toenail Fungus

  • Circulatory problems
  • Diabetes
  • Immuno-deficiency conditions
  • Excessive sweating or moisture inside shoe gear
  • History of athlete's foot
  • Injury to the nail bed, which makes the area more susceptible to infection
  • Improper shoe gear with tight toe-boxes (toenails get damaged from banging against the shoe and fungus, which thrives in in a tight toe-box,     enters and infects the damaged nails)

Symptoms of Toenail Fungus

  • Appearance of white marks
  • Yellow or discolored toenails
  • Thick and crumbly toenails
  • Foul odor
  • Pain

Toenail Fungus Protocol Includes

  • Laser nail therapy (Available as an addition to our fungus treatment protocol - laser alone will not cure fungus)
  • Self sanding of nails
  • Combination of topical anti-fungal medications (prescription and non-prescription)
  • Topical anti-fungal foot medications (if it's on the toes, it's on the foot)
  • Oral medications (in difficult cases)

Prevention of Toenail Fungus

  • Avoid sharing your nail clippers and nail files with others
  • Keep your toenails short (long nails bang the sides or tops of shoes-making the damaged nail susceptible to fungus)
  • Avoid sharing your socks and shoes with others
  • Treat your shoe collection with an all natural, antimicrobial silver spray like Tetra's Clean Sweep
  • Wash and dry your feet thoroughly before wearing shoes
  • Wear shoes that allow air to circulate around your feet (tight, enclosed, moist shoes contribute to fungal toenail infections)
  • Wear shower sandals or shower shoes when you are at a community pool or shower
  • Use tea-tree oil or an over the counter anti-fungal oil to protect fungus free nails from becoming infected (we like Tetra's Formula 3)
