Actress Mixes Beauty and Style with Brace

Actress Mixes Beauty and Style with Brace

  • Foot Pain, foot health, foot surgery, ankle brace

47-year-old actress Salma Hayek was seen wearing quite the stylish wardrobe. Hayek’s attire included ballerina flats, a leopard-print purse, knee-length skirt… and a puffy white ankle brace. Hayek was spotted wearing this ensemble while coming out of an anniversary dinner with husband Francois-Henri Pinault in Santa Monica, California. Hayek’s brace ranged from under her foot and wrapped half way up her left calf.

Hayek is no stranger to foot and ankle injuries. Back in 2011, the actress had to undergo surgery to repair two torn ligaments that she had injured a year prior as a result of slipping in her bathroom.

Foot surgery is sometimes necessary depending on your condition. To learn more, talk to Dr. Edward Lang of New Orleans Podiatry Associates. Dr. Lang can determine the best course of treatment for your foot and ankle needs.

When Is Surgery Necessary?

Foot and ankle surgery is generally reserved for cases in which less invasive, conservative procedures have failed to help with the problem. Some of the cases in which surgery may be necessary are:

  • Reconstruction to attend injuries caused by accidents or malformations
  • Removing foot deformities like bone spurs and bunions
  • Severe arthritis that has caused bone issues

What Types of Surgery Are There?

The type of surgery you receive will be dependent on the nature of the problem you have. Some of the possible surgeries include:

  • Bunionectomy for painful bunions
  • Nerve removal for painful nerve endings
  • Surgical fusion for realignment of bones

Benefits of Surgery

Although surgery is usually a last resort, when it is undertaken, it can provide more complete pain relief than before and may allow you to finally resume full activity.

Surgical techniques have also become increasingly sophisticated. Such techniques like endoscopic surgery allow for smaller incisions and faster recovery times.
